How to Test for Mold

Mold is helpful for our outdoor environments, but not so much for our indoor. In a bathroom or kitchen, a build-up of mold can cause some serious health ramifications. As a result, mold should be treated as soon as possible, but sometimes that can be hard when you’re not sure if mold is in your home or not. That’s why doing a mold test for your home is so important. Here are some ways you can go about it:

Check hidden areasHow to Test for Mold

Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Mold can build up practically anywhere in a room, so it’s important to check all areas, including those you can’t see. Behind your refrigerator, below sinks, in ventilation ducts, under carpeting, all of these hidden areas are common spots for mold to grow.

Use a mold test kit

You can pick up a mold test kit at your local home improvement store, or online, but make sure it’s the right kind. Some kits only test for surface mold which won’t be helpful if your mold is in one of those hidden areas. So get a kit that tests for mold spores in the air. The process will take a few days, but it will be more thorough that just testing for surface mold.

Hire a professional

In order to be 100% certain that you have or don’t have mold in your home, you should really hire a professional. A professional mold tester should have years of experience and will know the proper methods of searching for and treating mold.
